Behind the curtain
From a technical perspective, the directory doesn’t cost a whole lot to run. In terms of my time and effort, however, it costs a lot. As I make plans to extend and potentially rebuild parts of the directory, I have introduced sponsored nameplates to help fund these efforts and kick start my own type foundry.
Following the footsteps of my own foundry, 5% of all income is donated, and all of the directory’s expenses and income are transparently documented below. Costs shown are total costs to date. Some services are subscriptions which require recurring payments while others are one time payments.

Domain registration for typefoundry.directory, typefoundrydirectory.com, and typeface.directory.
The database housing all of the directory’s entries. I may eventually want to migrate away from this in favor of something simpler or more tailored to the directory’s needs.
Buttondown is a small, independent newsletter/email platform. I migrated over to this primarily for the relaunch of the directory, but will continue using it to manage all Morning Type newsletters going forward.
My text editor of choice.
Touch, responsive, flickable carousels.

I implemented Fabio’s python-fontbro package for subsetting the sponsored nameplates.
